Welcome to the Counseling Department

The Peasley Middle School comprehensive school-counseling program is dedicated to addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development and growth of ALL students. As professional school counselors, we not only use data but also collaborate with other educators, parents/ guardians, and the community to promote access and equity while always putting students first. These partnerships promotes the development of skills necessary for all students as well as support the mission statement of Peasley Middle School.

Individual Counseling -

Short term individual counseling is available to ALL students in need, at the request of the student, parent, or staff member. Through individual counseling, students are able to express concerns in a safe environment, where problem solving can then take place. Counselors also meet with students individually to help them with their academic path as well as scheduling.

Individual Counseling Parameters: While individual counseling is an integral part of every school counseling program, parents and students should understand and be informed that school counselors are not intended to act as intensive, long term therapists. If requests are made for sessions of a weekly, structured, scheduled, manner; these sessions will be short term, in nature, after which the parents can use discretion and decide whether they want to explore counseling services outside of the school, at their own expense. School counselors will work with families to navigate the services that will work best for the student and family.

Student Check Ins -

Counselors will be available to do check ins with students who may be going through a difficult situation but do not have the need of individual counseling.

Small Group Counseling -

Small group counseling is available to students in need, and may be requested by parents, students, or school staff and may also be provided based on data derived from DESSA and grade level meetings. Parental permission is required. Groups are designed so that students may gather together, in a confidential setting, to work through an issue that is preventing them from doing their best in school. Students will have the opportunity to interact and connect with peers, practice new skills, provide and receive feedback, and set goals, as needed. Small group counseling is considered a short-term intervention and generally lasts for 4-6 sessions.

Classroom Counseling -

Counselors will work to coordinate lessons in each grade level to help support students in the domains of academic and career, social/emotional development, and academics. These lessons may be presented by the counselors or outside community members.
