Peasley Updates 11/17/23

Good Evening Peasley Pride Families,

We have successfully completed the first quarter of instruction and are well on our way into the 2nd quarter! Report cards will be available electronically on November 20th. Along with report card availability, Peasley will be sending home your students' Fall STAR screening data for Reading and Math, a letter regarding your students' DESSA (social/emotional) scoring status and any information for those students who are being invited to participate in our Afterschool Program.

The state of Virginia has a new initiative that addresses the need for tutoring to take place for students that either did not pass their Reading and/or Math SOL last spring or passed by a narrow margin. This initiative is titled, “ALL IN.” We are able to serve many of our students during our EIB block of instruction. However, many will be invited to our Afterschool program in hopes that you will allow them to participate. Parents may choose to pick up their student or ride the Activity Bus home. This afterschool program will begin on December 5th and will be offered twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thank you to our PTA for hosting an amazing event, our Halloween Dance. We had a successful turnout of students and volunteers to assist with the event. We are very appreciative of our PTA and the many volunteers that made this event so much fun for our students. Please be sure to volunteer and/or donate towards our Cocoa and Cookies event that will take place on December 19th. See the Peasley PTA Facebook page for more information!

The annual, yellow Federal cards, were distributed a couple of weeks ago. If you have not received one from your student, please inquire, as it may be in his/her bookbag. We would love to have 100% of our students and families participate in the return of these cards.

Our SCA is hosting a holiday spirit week the week of December 11th. More information is to come regarding the ways in which we will honor the holiday season! There will be a designated day to wear pajama pants. However, days outside of spirit week, pajama pants are not permissible as appropriate attire to be worn to school. This can be found in our student code of conduct on page 6, under dress code and listed as “sleepwear.” We appreciate your support with this expectation.

The month of October was recognized for Bully Prevention Month and resources are readily available to our families in our “Counselor’s Corner” on the webpage. The month of November has been Military Appreciation Month. We honor all of our current and past military families for their service.

Our boys’ and girls’ basketball team, as well as our cheerleaders have been chosen and games begin after the Thanksgiving Break. Congratulations to all of our new team members! We look forward to everyone’s support at the games! Please remember that students must be accompanied by an adult at games.

School will be closed on Wednesday, November 22nd- Friday, November 24th to recognize and be thankful for all during this Thanksgiving Holiday season. Our students will be on their regular schedules Monday, November 20th as an “A” day and Tuesday, November 21st as a “B” day. We hope all who plan to travel or stay put in Gloucester have a safe and healthy time spent with their families and friends. We are most grateful, here at Peasley, for our students, their families and our staff.

As always, please feel free to contact any administrator (Ms. Balderson, Ms. Merritt or Mrs. Auche) if you have questions, concerns or thoughts to share, at any time. We can be reached at 804-693-1499. As a reminder, our communications are distributed via email. Please make sure your email address is current and up-to-date, so that you do not miss out on any news!

Sincerely,

Ms. Cathy Balderson
