Peasley Pride Updates 4/12

Peasley Students and Families,

Welcome to the 4th quarter of the 2023-2024 school year! So hard to believe that the last quarter of this school year is upon us! The grass is greener, the pollen is circulating, birds are chirping, hummingbirds have returned and the sun is shining high in the sky. Hello Spring! This is a busy time of the year for most schools and Peasley is no exception to that hectic schedule. There are so many exciting activities and events coming our way. I would like to outline them below:

1. Report Cards can be accessed within the Parent Portal in Powerschool on April 17th for the 3rd quarter. If you have any questions regarding your student's grades or attendance, please do not hesitate to contact our classroom teachers, administration or our school registrar. The final report card of the year will be printed in June and mailed home to all parents.

2. This week, all students came home with information about this Summer's School-A-Palooza being held at Page Middle School from July 8th-August 1st. ALL students are invited to apply for this Summer School Program. There is an online application process if you and your student are interested in the course offerings. This form must be completed by April 17th. Please see the Gloucester County Public Schools website for a QR code that will also allow you to access the form.

3. Our PTA has many end of year events also occurring during the fourth quarter. To name a few: Semi-Formal Dance, April 20th for grades 7-8; Duke's Deli, Spirit Night, May 23rd, 5-8pm; Spring Fling, grades 6-8, May 11th. Our PTA also helps to support the 8th grade promotion ceremony (June 5th) and our end of the year Carnival (June 6th). We appreciate our PTA and their continuous efforts to support Peasley Middle School! You can always check out their Facebook page for additional information and opportunities to volunteer your time or donate towards an event.

4. Peasley Middle School is excited to host its first annual Family Night on Thursday, April 18th at 5:30pm. This event will allow for a program our parents can attend, visit many displays of our students' work, visit some local resources that will have space set up to share what they offer to families and, of course, dinner for all! Please see the attached flyer and register now for this thrilling event! Peasley Family Night

5. A note from Nurse Sabourin about vaccinations for rising 7th graders: Clinics will be held on Monday, May 6th from 1-2pm at Peasley Middle School. See letter attached here: Vaccination Clinic for Rising 7th graders

6. Next week, we will be conducting a mandatory practice Lockdown Drill. Please remind your student the importance behind taking these drills very seriously as we practice. Thank you for your support!

7. Our Library and School Librarian, Mrs. Southall, will be hosting the annual Book Fair the week of April 29th. Please be sure your student securely brings in money for this event. All students will have an opportunity to preview items being sold during the Book Fair. Thank you for supporting our library - funds raised help Mrs. Southall to keep an updated selection of books for our students to check out!

8. April is the month of the Military Child, providing an opportunity to recognize and honor the service of Virginia's youngest heroes, over 77,000 military connected children. Show your support on Wednesday, April 17th, by wearing purple, in honor of Military Kids on Purple Up Day! Purple Up Day

9. Please remind our young boys and girls to dress appropriately for the spring weather but also in accordance to our dress code. Please assist us in monitoring the length of shorts and shirts. We appreciate your support in these efforts!

10. Another message will be coming out soon to share our SOL testing schedule. SOL testing session is amongst us! We are reviewing and preparing our amazing students to do their very best on these tests. Our 8th grade students will kick off the SOL testing season on April 23rd by participating in the new Integrated Reading and Writing Assessment (formerly know as the Writing SOL).

11. We will be hosting our final ALL PRO DAD's breakfast on May 7th. We hope all can participate. There is a registration process for this early morning event, so please be sure to check in on Peasley's Facebook page for this information.

12. Lastly, Gloucester County Public Schools will have an Early Dismissal on Friday, May 3rd. The middle schools dismiss at 12:20pm.

We hope that you are able to attend some or all of the events listed above. Many exciting events and activities are occurring at Peasley Middle School - Home of the Pride! We look forward to sharing the next, final weeks with our students and families as we wrap up the 2023-2024 school year. If you should have any questions regarding this list of events, please contact our school at 804-693-1499.

Sincerely,

Ms. Cathy Balderson
